The Danley Road Crossing Patrol

Created by Michael 3 years ago
Sylvia approached me in 1988, concerned about the safety of children crossing the road from our side entrance on Halfway Road. She expressed a willingness to be a Road Crossing Patrol Person and I was pleased to arrange her appointment and training. For over twenty years she ensured the safety of our pupils crossing a very busy road. If ever they failed to obey her instructions she would tell me and they would be told that her only concern was their safety. Unfortunately I was unable to chastise the drivers who resented a few extra seconds being added to their journey but the police however were willing to support her important work when required. Some would say it was a thankless task but not Sylvia. She was very kind hearted and caring. She was a very loyal member of the Danley Middle School Team and expressed her distress when it was forced to close in 2009. She continued in the same role for a further four years supporting Halfway Primary School. Sylvia was a “Star” in the Halfway and Minster community serving in a low key but vital role for twenty five years. We all owe her grateful thanks. I offer my sincere condolences to her family.
